Attorney Richard M. Sandman is co-owner and Managing Partner of Rodman, Rodman & Sandman, P.C., and has been a practicing attorney for 30 years. Following graduation from Boston College Law School where he served as Executive Editor of the American Journal of Law and Medicine, Mr. Sandman started his career as an Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he litigated high-exposure felonies. He returned to Massachusetts and became one of our personal injury attorneys in 1985.
Mr. Sandman is nationally recognized in the areas of asbestos litigation, toxic torts, water contamination, and complex product liability claims. He has been involved extensively in tobacco-related litigation and worked with other personal injury attorneys throughout the country to achieve the national multibillion-dollar settlement with the tobacco industry. He has represented thousands of asbestos claimants nationwide in state and federal courts, earning millions of dollars for his clients. Mr. Sandman has played significant roles in litigations involving defective prescription drugs and other products. Recently, he represented eighty Massachusetts municipalities whose public water supplies had been contaminated by the gasoline additive methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE). After six years of litigation, the case settled, resulting in over $83 million dollars to his clients.
Mr. Sandman has successfully litigated and resolved individual claims involving catastrophic motor vehicle accidents, head injuries, burns, construction site injuries, as well as claims against major automobile manufactures for automotive defects, including crashworthiness claims involving Jeep CJs and Wranglers.
Mr. Sandman is an avid dog lover and enjoys tennis, golf, and photography. He lives in Andover, Massachusetts with his wife, Susan. His two sons are also attorneys presently practicing in New Orleans and Dallas.
